About The Whiskey Robber:
Hailing from Transylvania, Attila Ambrus (b. 1967) is a former animal pelt smuggler, grave-digger, Zamboni driver, and (terrible) professional hockey goalie, best known for an outrageous anti-establishment crime spree in Budapest in the 1990s. Handing flowers to tellers and mailing wine to investigators, he carried off 29 non-violent robberies of state-owned banks and post offices that became a protest call against the corrupt political and banking system in nascent capitalist Hungary. He earned the moniker "Whiskey Robber," because witnesses always spotted him downing a shot before stepping into the banks.
